Amendment Of GBO Constitution And Electoral Regulations By Dr Charles Omorodion 24th April 2020

 

1. GBO Executive Committee (EC) members who have paid their annual dues, subscriptions, ID cards and meet other necessary criteria for elections set by the Electoral Committee and approved EC will be eligible to contest GBO general elections and by-elections henceforth;

2. GBO members from the World Forum with good standing can submit themselves to contest elections subject to the following conditions:

a) An application to contest EC post should be simultaneously submitted to both the GBO Screening Committee and the Electoral Committee;

b) The Electoral Committee screening of applicants will be specific and limited to assessing the eligibility to contest an EC post as specified in the recently approved Electoral guidelines;

c) GBO Screening Committee assessment of membership eligibility will be all-encompassing and should include, but not limited to assessment of the applicant’s character, personality, capacity, enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service ( DBS ) check and other eligibility qualification for EC membership

d) Where appropriate, the applicant from the General Forum should also submit at least two character references, one of which must be from an active and non-related member of GBO Executive Committee;

e) Where a candidate is cleared by the Electoral Committee as eligible to contest any GBO EC post but failed the GBO Screening Committee criteria, such a person should be referred to the GBO EC membership to decide whether to admit or refuse the application through a simple majority vote.

3. The aforesaid amendments supersede all other constitutional provisions and regulations in place as at 24th April 2020
